Fields, CSPS wants to excel in:

It is true that we have been motivated by the values of Gurusaday Dutt but we also try to make his values become reality through various projects that are conducive to the development of under privileged children, adults, invalids from all walks of life. If the Bratachari philosophy was based on spiritual development of mankind through joyful learning, CSPS has successfully restored spirituality into day to day reality.

Child health development and nutrition:

In 2008, CSPS has organized two awareness programmes: one in January (from 26t h to 28th) and another one in August (from 21st to 23rd) in Indrabil village in Purulia and in Subhashgram in South 24 parganas. These programmes were held to generate awareness programs among the children of 10 years of age and below and their parents. These camps helped us analyze and identify the cause of their malnutrition.

Our team was consisted of child specialists and they have undertaken a thorough medical check-up of the children and of their parents. Our team has also distributed medicines.

Generally the children suffer from malnutrition because of lack of proper diet which does not always relate to the purchasing power or the affordability of the family. In most of the cases, the parents are unaware of the consequences as they are unable to maintain a disciplined life. In the course of these three-day-camps, CSPS has provided these children with food and has organized food camps.

But surprisingly, these camps made the problem more visible. As CSPS is a very small organization, financial constraint is our one of the main factors. Therefore, even if we want to help the mass, it is sometimes difficult as we entirely bank on Government grants and voluntary donation. If people from all walks of life come forward to eradicate mass under-nourishment among children, our society would be a better place to live and would be able to provide equal right to all.

Our target group was the families those who belong to below poverty line (BPL). And after organizing such camps we understood why such anomalies exist in the families related to nutrition.

We have tried to identify the reasons:

Even if the parents are poor, they can afford to secure a three course minimal meal for the family, it’s the sheer negligence from their part and lack of education on how to bring up a child determines such degradation.

The main cause of hunger is poverty and being poor, it’s difficult to meet the daily needs.

Education for mothers is also important in order to protect the balance in mother-child nutrition. If she doesn’t know how and when to feed a child, the problem of undernourishment may get worse.

So, all CSPS wants is to work with these families, to educate them and to provide them with food. To achieve this CSPS wants a mass participation of the sensitive people from all walks of life. Although CSPS needs financial assistance from the Government, but it also hopes that the more our friends and well wishers will come forward the better we will be able to serve.

HIV awareness programme in Kolkata and in its nearby district in Hooghly

Organizing all day street-awareness program in Bowbazar, Kolkata:

The threat of AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome- a virus that progressively reduces the immune system of human body) in the late twentieth century and in twenty first century has transformed itself into pandemic strain. More than 33 million people are suffering from this deadly virus worldwide and more than three million people suffer in India, making it the second largest HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) infected country in the world.

CSPS has taken initiatives to make people aware of the fact because only awareness programmes can prevent one from getting infected. Unfortunately even if we live in the age of industrial automation and technological advancements, researchers have yet not found the medicine to give infected people a new life. Therefore, CSPS whole heartedly tries to reach out to the mass as we know that lack of knowledge make people vulnerable. Though the virus does not only propagate among poor people, but through proper education and measures, we can make them realize the gravity of the virus. It is true that no one can be spared from the spreading of the virus if not given proper guidelines on lifestyle and on sexual health.

The all day street awareness programme in Bowbazar, in Kolkata organized by CSPS had manifold characteristics.

First of all it was necessary to identify the target group. So we decided to talk to the pedestrians, people returning from office those who generally take the BBD Bag –Bepin Behari Ganguly street while going back home in the suburbs.

Secondly we also tried to get in touch with the lower income group or the under-privileged class mostly the small shop owners, helpers etc.

In most of the cases, we found that people were very shy in discussing the matter and therefore less interactive regarding certain topics like “Wearing condoms while having sex”, “What are the possible ways of getting affected by the HIV virus” etc.

It is undeniable that a large part of our society is still having problems in dealing with social taboos, and prefers to stay silent which makes them extremely vulnerable to the virus.

CSPS is trying its best to make these lower-income group, less educated people understand the gravity of the problem through such street awareness programmes.

Even if we generate awareness among people by distributing free condoms, by telling them the dire consequences of the HIV virus, it is also expected of them to come out and talk freely about the subject, rejecting all prejudice and myths.

Organizing Life Style Education lectures in schools:

Keeping in mind the threat of AIDS/HIV+ virus and many more sexually transmitted diseases, CSPS, with the help of a number of educational institutions has conducted awareness lectures on life style and individual health in schools and has chosen the adolescent age group as their main audience.

During these lectures, CSPS has observed that students were extremely curious of the topic and it seems that they found their “agony aunt” to answer all their questions regarding life, health and sexuality which have so far been kept under secret and they never dared to ask.

The lectures were a huge success and the volunteers of CSPS have thoroughly answered the questions and respected the anonymity of the students ( for example, during the question-answer session students were told to write their questions individually on a paper without mentioning their name and to put their questions in a box placed before them).

Through this interactive method CSPS has understood that the life style education is absolutely necessary if the society wants her future generation to grow up in a healthy environment. Therefore, CSPS would appreciate a spontaneous participation of the educational institutions in order to organize such awareness programmess in schools, colleges and would request them to help CSPS with their unconditional encouragement and support.

Blood donation camps:

Each year, CSPS conducts two blood donation camps in Hooghly and in Triveni and tries to contribute to the huge need of blood in the society. Though small in numbers, the donors (122) in Hooghly and Tribeni( 82) had shown their will of helping patients who are in need of blood.

CSPS is in contact with various Blood Banks in West Bengal and tries to encourage people for voluntary blood donation.
